Philanthropy in Action at Oysters Rock Hospitality

This National Philanthropy Day, we are looking back at a year filled with generosity, resilience, and community support. Through Shuckin Good Cause, we worked side by side with local partners, our teams, and our guests to make a real difference across the Gulf Coast.

Shuckin Good Cause is our nonprofit arm created to support children, families, hospitality workers, and local organizations. For nearly 30 years, this community has supported Anna Maria Oyster Bar. Giving back is not something we added on. It grew naturally from the relationships built inside our restaurants and the responsibility we feel to the people who walk through our doors.

Our philanthropic work centers around four pillars. Education. Heroes. Quality of Life. Affiliations. These pillars guide how we help, who we partner with, and where our support is needed most, whether that is literacy programs like Dive Into Reading, relief grants for our teams, or support for organizations that care for first responders, veterans, and families throughout the region.

This year brought one of our biggest tests. Hurricanes Helene and Milton hit our hospitality workforce the hardest. Hours disappeared, homes were damaged, and island businesses struggled to reopen. Rock n Support was launched almost immediately as a community wide response, and Shuckin Good Cause was activated overnight to help power the effort.

The Bradenton Area Convention and Visitors Bureau moved quickly to secure the venue, bring in talent, and coordinate county support. The Center of Anna Maria Island stepped in instantly, handling logistics, uniting volunteers, and signing the artist contracts. Their leadership made it possible for the community to come together in record time.

More than 3,500 people packed the Bradenton Area Convention Center for the benefit concert starring Lynyrd Skynyrd and Marcus King. In the months that followed, 781 hospitality and tourism workers received $355,250 in direct relief through Shuckin Good Cause and the Women’s Resource Center. Every dollar went directly to the people who needed help most.

On the ground, our team created a resource center in the Pier parking lot to distribute meals, supplies, and support for neighbors and employees. Teams from every location stepped in, proving again that our greatest strength is the people inside our restaurants.

While storm recovery defined a major part of the year, generosity showed up in many other ways. Over the past 12 months, the Toast round up program raised $34,199.77 across all AMOB locations. These small round ups at the register helped fund emergency assistance, literacy initiatives, community partnerships, and support for families facing hardship.

Philanthropy also came to life at our first Crustacean Dinner. Guests, volunteers, and partners created an unforgettable night of food, wine, and purpose, raising $8,000 for Shuckin Good Cause. For a first time fundraiser, the impact was a huge success and a sign of how much our community cares.

Looking ahead, we are preparing for the Giving Challenge, a 24 hour opportunity for guests, friends, and partners to support Shuckin Good Cause with the potential for matched gifts. This support helps expand our programs, strengthen our partnerships, and ensure that families and hospitality workers have resources when they need them most.

National Philanthropy Day is about recognizing the work that happens every day. It reflects the generosity of our guests, the dedication of our team, and the strength of our partners. From hurricane relief to literacy programs to round ups at the register, the impact is real and ongoing.

We are grateful for every act of kindness this year. We are proud of what Shuckin Good Cause has accomplished. And we are ready for the work ahead.
