Ten Years on the Pier

On December 27, 2025, Anna Maria Oyster Bar on the Pier turns 10.

Ten years of being right where Historic Bridge Street meets the water. Ten years of sunsets, salty breezes, and moments that don’t need much explaining if you’ve ever spent time on the Pier. This location has always been its own experience, shaped by the setting, the people, and life on the water.

How It Started

In early 2015, Anna Maria Oyster Bar was awarded the lease to operate on the Historic Bridge Street Pier. When we opened in late December 2015, it was clear this restaurant was going to be different from day one. Smaller footprint. Over the water. Constant movement of locals, visitors, fishermen, and people just out enjoying the island.

In the beginning, AMOB on the Pier operated as a counter service restaurant. Guests ordered at the counter, then grabbed a table card with a famous name on it. Elvis Presley. Marilyn Monroe. Arnold Palmer. Jackie Chan. Bruce Lee. And so many more.

When food was ready, we didn’t call numbers. We called names over the speakers. Hearing “Elvis Presley, your food is ready” echo across the Pier quickly became part of the experience. It was Five Star Fun and perfectly suited to the space.

Breakfast, Brunch, and Early Pier Days

From the start, the Pier opened early. From 2015 through June 2019, AMOB on the Pier served breakfast daily from 8 AM to 11 AM. Locals made it part of their routine, and visitors found us after sunrise walks or before heading out on the water.

Weekends rolled into brunch, served Saturdays and Sundays from 11 AM to 2 PM. Those mornings were relaxed and familiar, especially on Sundays. Guests knew there was a good chance John Horne would be in the open kitchen. Sometimes slicing. Sometimes cooking. Sometimes dropping an egg.

As guest habits shifted and the Pier leaned more into lunch, dinner, and sunset dining, breakfast officially came to an end in June 2019. But those early mornings helped shape what the Pier would become.

Early Storms and Finding Its Footing

Life on the water doesn’t come without challenges. In 2016, storm damage forced the Pier to temporarily pause operations for about two weeks. During that closure, repairs were made, including the installation of a new roof.

Instead of sitting idle, Pier team members were sent to train at other Anna Maria Oyster Bar locations. It was during this time that many learned full-service dining, gaining experience that would ultimately change the future of the Pier. That moment quietly set the stage for what came next.

Slowing Down and Settling In

As the years went on, one thing became clear. The Pier wasn’t a place people wanted to rush through. The views were too good and the sunsets were too hard to leave.

AMOB on the Pier transitioned from counter service to full table service, inviting guests to settle in and stay awhile. Lunches stretched longer. Dinners lingered.

Expanding the Experience

Growth at the Pier always came with intention. Over time, the footprint expanded to better serve guests and make the most of the space.

In 2024, that growth continued with the addition of Pier Cheer, a grab and go bar offering drinks, snacks, and easy bites right on the Pier. With outdoor tiki tables lining the side of the restaurant, Pier Cheer gave guests another way to enjoy the space, whether they were waiting for a table, walking the Pier, or simply looking to enjoy the view with something cold in hand.

Weathering the Storms Again

Being on the water means storms are part of the story.

In fall 2024, Hurricanes Helene and Milton caused damage to the Pier, taking the awning and parts of the deck railing. While the building itself remained sound, the impact was felt.

Once again, the Pier adapted. Seating was modified. Team members supported one another across locations. And from what was lost came something new.

Today, a Seminole-style tiki hut stands in place of the old awning. It offers more shade, more character, and a look that feels right at home on the Pier. It’s a reminder that setbacks don’t define a place. How you come back does.

What Makes the Pier What It Is

At its heart, AMOB on the Pier has always been about people.

The team members who bring genuine heart, hospitality, and hustle every day. The regulars who know the staff by name. The visitors who stumble upon the Pier once and turn it into a tradition.

This restaurant has seen first jobs and last shifts. Birthdays and anniversaries. Long lunches that turn into sunset dinners. It has always been a place to gather, slow down, and feel like you belong.

Looking Ahead

As we celebrate ten years on the Pier, we’re also looking forward. We’ve signed a new lease through 2030, keeping Anna Maria Oyster Bar on the Pier right where it belongs.

More sunsets. More stories. More Five Star Fun.

Whether you’ve been with us since the counter service days or you’re pulling up a chair for the first time, you’re part of this place.

Here’s to ten years on the Pier, and many more ahead.
