Tidewell Day is one of the most meaningful traditions within the Anna Maria Oyster Bar family. It began as a heartfelt thank you to the Tidewell Foundation for the comfort, compassion, and dignity they provided to individuals who helped shape our story.
Our original chef, known lovingly as Old Man Jerry Yettaw, received incredible care from Tidewell Hospice during his final days. A few years later, the Tidewell team once again cared with the same warmth and grace for Ann and Lynn Horne Senior, beloved parents of our founders John and Lynn Horne.
This tradition began as Ribs for Jerry, created to honor Jerry and express gratitude for the care he received. As our family continued to feel the profound impact of Tidewell’s support, the event grew to honor Ann and Lynn as well. Today, we know it as Tidewell Day: Ribs for Jerry, Ann, and Lynn.
Each year, we celebrate this tradition by giving back to the Tidewell Foundation in a way that directly supports their mission. Ten dollars from every order of our Danish Baby Back Ribs is donated to help the Foundation continue its life changing work. Guests may also donate five dollars for a pair of Oyster Angel Wings in honor of someone they love. Each name is proudly displayed inside our restaurants as a symbol of remembrance, love, and belonging.
Tidewell Day takes place on November 13 which is also World Caring Day. This special timing reminds us that compassion and gratitude exist at the very heart of hospitality and that caring for our community is what truly connects us.
This tradition reflects one of Oysters Rock Hospitality’s Pillars of Philanthropy: Quality of Life. Through this pillar, we support organizations that provide essential care and comfort to individuals and families in our region. Tidewell Day continues that spirit of giving forward, honoring those who care for others when it matters most.
Jerry, Ann, and Lynn remain forever in our hearts. ❤️
