Oysters Rock Hospitality had the pleasure of attending the 2024 FRLA Marketing + Operations Summit, held in the vibrant city of Ft Lauderdale. This summit was more than just an industry gathering; it was an experience that combined professional development, culinary exploration, and a deep dive into the area’s renowned art scene.

Day 1: A Grand Kickoff and Strategic Insights

The summit started with a General Session that immediately set the tone for the event. Gene Deckerhoff, our Emcee, guided us through the day’s agenda, which included insights from some of the industry’s top minds.

The day continued with several impactful sessions:

  • “The Future of Hospitality Marketing” explored emerging trends and technologies that are reshaping the industry. This session provided us with invaluable strategies to enhance our marketing efforts at Oysters Rock Hospitality.
  • “Leveraging Technology for Growth” was a deep dive into how tech innovations are driving growth in hospitality. The discussions around AI, automation, and guest personalization were particularly enlightening.

Day 2: Immersive Experiences and Culinary Delights

The second day was packed with activities that perfectly balanced learning with Ft Lauderdale’s unique culture:

  • Breakfast at La Sandwicherie: We started our day with a visit to La Sandwicherie, where we enjoyed their “Tropical” sandwich. It was a medley of fresh avocado, creamy mozzarella, crisp lettuce, juicy tomatoes, cool cucumbers, and a trio of papaya, mango, and pineapple.
  • Wynwood Walls Food and Street Art Walking Tour: This tour was a fun highlight of the summit, taking us through the vibrant Wynwood district. We tasted dishes from five local restaurants showcasing the area’s culinary diversity and explored the district’s famous murals and galleries. The guided tour of the Wynwood Walls Museum added a deeper understanding of the art that has made Wynwood a global cultural destination.

Sessions on Sustainability and Guest Experience

The summit continued with sessions that were both forward-thinking and practical:

  • “Sustainability in Hospitality” provided a look at how sustainable practices can be integrated into every aspect of our operations. This session reinforced our commitment to environmental responsibility at Oysters Rock Hospitality.
  • “Enhancing the Guest Experience” focused on creating memorable moments for guests. The ideas shared in this session will undoubtedly influence our approach to hospitality, ensuring that every guest at our restaurants feels like they belong.

Culinary Exploration Continues

The culinary adventures continued as we explored more of Miami’s diverse food scene:

Miami Mojito Company: Here, we indulged in spiced chicken verde chile with herb marinade and aguacate salsa. The bold flavors of this dish were a perfect example of Miami’s vibrant culinary traditions.

Manta Japanese-Peruvian Fusion: We experienced a fusion of flavors with a bespoke bite of torched tuna with aji amarillo mash. This dish was a delightful blend of Japanese and Peruvian influences, showcasing the innovative spirit of Miami’s culinary scene.

  • Joe’s Pizza: We enjoyed a classic cheese pizza, or “za,” from Joe’s Pizza. Sometimes, simplicity is key, and this perfectly baked pizza was a testament to that.

Council Oak: We spent an evening at Council Oak, where we shared an epic seafood tower and a dessert board that was nothing short of spectacular. Networking with industry peers, including our friend Angela from Zenith Insurance, made the experience even more enriching.

The Salty Doughnut: We capped off our culinary journey with a visit to The Salty Doughnut, indulging in their white chocolate tres leches donut. It was the perfect sweet treat to conclude our Miami food exploration.

Final Day: Reflections and Future Plans

The final day of the summit included a wrap-up session where we reflected on the key takeaways:

  • “Trends Shaping the Future of Hospitality” was an eye-opening session that covered the latest trends influencing the industry, from shifting consumer behaviors to innovative service models. This session left us with plenty of ideas to bring back to Oysters Rock Hospitality.
  • Closing Remarks and Networking: The summit concluded with a final networking session, providing an opportunity to connect with fellow industry professionals and discuss potential collaborations.

The 2024 FRLA Marketing + Operations Summit was a blend of professional growth, culinary exploration, and cultural immersion.
